Abducted Lebanese, Bank Manager Released


Mr. Melad Nasari, a Lebanese and staff of Homer Engineering Construction Company Limited, abducted by unknown gunmen along the new East/West Road, Choba, near Port Harcourt, and one Mr. Patrick Akorodu, a manager with Zenith Bank, Omoku branch, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers state, were, yesterday, released by members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

Mr. Melad Nasari, a Lebanese and staff of Homer Engineering Construction Company Limited, abducted by unknown gunmen along the new East/West Road, Choba, near Port Harcourt, and one Mr. Patrick Akorodu, a manager with Zenith Bank, Omoku branch, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers state, were, yesterday, released by members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

According to a statement from Jomo Gbomo, the spokesman for MEND, 'a commando unit from the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), today, Wednesday, 5 November, 2008, at about 1700 hrs., conducted a successful rescue of Mr. Melad Nasari, as promised, from deep inside the bush where he was confined by his abductors.'

A reliable source at the State Security Service (SSS) headquarters, in Port Harcourt, confirmed to P.M. News, this morning, the release of the two men, but denied having any contacts with members of MEND.

The source further said that 'you know that we have been working on the release of these men from their abductors. Once they realised we were closing up on them, like in this case, they released their victims.'

The source further said that the men were released to the SSS yesterday, and were at the outfit's headquarters until about 10 p.m., while also claiming that no ransome was paid.
